Winter Podcast Upfront Notes

A group of podcast publishers held the event in Los Angeles earlier this week. Some notes.

  • Serial Productions appears set to launch a new show towards the end of this year, about the public education system. This was originally hinted, I believe, in the Longform interview with Julie Snyder that came out earlier this year.
  • WNYC Studios announced the return of Sooo Many White Guys, plus new shows from Michelle Buteau in collaboration with comedian and writer Jordan Carlos (Adulting), comedian Chris Garcia (Scattered), and the team behind Caught (The Stakes). Also: a podcast from the local news site The Gothamist, which WNYC acquired this time last year.
  • From Stitcher: Gaby Dunn’s Bad With Money — now also a book — is relaunching with them for its third season; Dunn and creative partner Allison Raskin is also bringing their YouTube show to podcasting through the network; the sequel to Wolverine: The Long Night will debut next month; LeVar Burton Reads to return; also announced is Voyage To The Stars, a new improvised narrative podcast.
  • I recommend Digiday’s write-up on the event.
