  • Here’s a small follow-up to the Sony Music joint venture story: a reader brought up the idea that this deal may well inspire the concept of TV-style “overall deals” to take place in the marketplace. In my understanding, “overall deals” generally refer to an arrangement where a studio pays full compensation to a creative (salary, overhead, etc.) for the exclusive or first-look production of shows for a specific period of time. To this I say: maybe!
  • Thought this Medium post by Kickstarter co-founder Yancey Strickler, called the “Dark Forest Theory of the Internet,” was interesting. He argues that the “public square” metaphor for the internet may be fading out somewhat, replaced by a mode in which internet users increasingly opt to operate and communicate within intentional private and semi-disconnected spaces where the feedback loop can be more controlled — spaces like, for instance, podcasts and newsletters.   • Turns out a good portion of Hot Pod readers really like Comic Sans, and also: the new show art feature. Will be doing more of that, then!
