A couple of points to note from Australia. Corey Layton has left the Australian podcast platform startup Whooshkaa to become Commercial Product and Audio Partnerships Director at ARN, the Australian Radio Network, which is a group of commercial radio stations that also recently extended its licence agreement with iHeartRadio until 2036 and renewed its commitment to podcasting.
Also, some of the data from Edison’s Infinite Dial Australia 2019 research is out, suggesting that while radio listening remains dominant, both awareness and take-up of podcasting has increased since the 2018 survey. Fifteen per cent of Australians listened to podcasts in the last week, up from 13 per cent a year ago and 10 per cent in 2017. Smart speaker ownership more than doubled to 13 percent of the population, but still lags a long way behind the US.
